Silkscreen printing takes place when a photo-sensitive coating is applied to a polyester mesh stretched over aluminum roller frames. This photo-sensitive coating is exposed to light through a film positive of the image to be printed. This causes the coating to harden in the non-imaged areas, enabling the unexposed (unhardened) areas to be washed away, leaving a negative image of the label or graphic overlay on the screen mesh through which ink can flow. The screen mesh is then ready for the silkscreen label printing process with the negative image hardened to it. The ink is then pressed through it by a squeegee blade, producing an image on the substrate. The silkscreen printing material is then put through a drying station that contains UV lamps via a conveyor. This process dries the silkscreen print labels ink. The porous polyester mesh is available in numerous thread counts. The thread count controls how heavy the ink film thickness is when laid down on the substrate.
Silkscreen printing labels can be added to nearly any material we work with, allowing for complete customization of your parts and components. Our automated silkscreen label printing machines enable fast and easy repeatability, which allows for consistent, perfect prints of the designs of your custom screen printed labels. Our silkscreen printing capabilities allow for resolutions up to 100 LPI. We can print your silkscreen print labels using a variety of specialized inks and/or chemicals, including:
- Custom colors
Scented inks are also available for unique finished labels.
Our silkscreen printing capabilities allow for multiple colors, varying fonts, or anything else your design requires. At Fabri-Tech we can also use our silkscreen label printing methods on a variety of substrates, including:
- PET, PC, PMMA, PP, PS, ABS and PU plastics
- Various metals including ITO
There is a wide range of benefits that are associated with screen printed labels, including:
- Abrasion & Moisture Resistant - Because the ink film thickness is so great this process excels in applications where resistance to weather (outdoors), moisture, abrasion, and chemicals are needed.
- Smooth Ink Coating - The biggest advantage screen printing has over other printing processes is its ability to lay down a smooth, VERY thick coating of ink.
- Opacity - Due to the thickness of the ink, screen printed inks are opaquer than in other printing processes.
Screen printing is more versatile than traditional printing techniques. Unlike lithography or etching, the surface does not have to be printed under pressure. Due to this, silkscreen labels are used throughout numerous industries, including:
- Medical devices
- Signs & displays
- Textile fabric
- Product labels
- Thick film technology
- And more
Fabri-Tech offers custom silkscreen printing for labels at all our production facilities. This silkscreen printing process allows us to print any graphics, company logos, legends, or labels you’d like directly onto your finished products.
The only limit to our silkscreen printing services, like nearly all our custom manufacturing processes, is your imagination. However, size may be a limiting factor at the very large and very small ends of the spectrum. We’ll take any design you can dream up and turn them into silkscreen printed labels that are applied to the custom products that we’re creating for you.
